Sloes and Crab Apples

It's a great year for seeds and nuts but also a great year for fruit with huge crops of Crab Apples and Sloes at Knaresborough Forest Park, the blue of masses of ripe sloes visible from a great distance
Please feel free to forage for yourself and make some lovely crab apple jelly and sloe gin.
Traditionally sloes were picked after a frost then each one was picked by a thorn from the same bush but the process can be speeded up by putting them in the freezer overnight
