Ten LLC board members were invited to attend a garden party organised for volunteers from across North Yorkshire. The occasion, held at the Deanery, York Minster, hosted by the Lord Lieutenant and the Archbishop of York, presented a great opportunity for LLC to do some networking. It was a holiday spirit on the train journey. Amongst many others we met representatives of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Hospital Radio York, CPRE, the York Mosque, Friends of Rowntree Park, and the Archbishop and Lord Lieutenant themselves. 'What's the point of all this hobnobbing?' one might ask... well, it's very useful in that we all inform each other and can help each other in a multitude of ways. It's really only through communication and explaining the aims and value of our projects that we can get anything done at all... It was a happy and fruitful , if hot, day. We admired a huge flower arrangement exploding with delphiniums and ..raspberries. The band sweltered in their uniforms, chocolate melted onto fingers and teacups, and everyone sought the shade created by the trees round the edges of the garden.
