Quiz Night 2026

Thank you to everyone who supported this year's Quiz Night, either by participating or volunteering, which raised the fantastic sum of over £1300 for a new water collection system.
Our site manager Geoff explains why this is needed:
"In February this year we had our first phase of tree planting - many people volunteered to help us plant more than a thousand trees, shrubs and hedge plants.
At the time it was very wet and muddy so the plants established well. Then this summer happened, one of the hottest on record with more than 23 days above 25C (the local threshold for a heatwave) and rainfall 45% below the long term summer average.
Understandably the new trees were stressed, but we only managed to water the larger specimens; we don't have a mains water supply and currently only have limited capacity for rainwater harvesting.
This winter we are planning to plant more trees and shrubs, at least as many again, with the help of White Rose Forest and Yorkshire Dales and Rivers Trust. However the forecast is for another hot and dry summer so we need to extend our rainwater harvesting to improve our climate resilience.

At KFP we have further old farm buildings and sheds where we can add guttering and the possibility to add up to six more IBCs, (Intermediate Bulk Containers), the metre cube plastic tanks in a metal cage which hold 1000 litres and are widely available. We now have some electricity on site thanks to our solar panels, so we could pump stored water to further IBCs on a trailer to take to the trees.
We have a wonderful group of volunteers who can undertake the installation, hopefully in time to catch the winter rains. We also hope that lots of people join us for the tree planting - we will be sending news out later in the season."
This year we had a change of Quizmaster and invited one of our younger supporters, Evie, whom some of our team had witnessed running a quiz in Harrogate previously. The audience was particularly impressed by her confidence and her breadth of knowledge of the animal world. We would also like to thank Ben and Louise Skinner for the musical interlude, the establishments which provided the raffle prizes, and the volunteers who turned out to help prepare for and run the event.
