About the Event

We would love you to join us for our first phase of planting, funded by White Rose Forest. We will be planting mostly hazel, with a few field maple and rowan trees. The trees will also need guards installing to protect from browsing by the deer - we are using biodegradable ones made from natural materials. The trees are very small so there will be no heavy digging - children are welcome!

Please see our journal post for more details of our plans.

We aim to be working from 10am to 1pm, but feel free to come for an hour or so if you can't stay the full time.

If the working party is cancelled due to severe weather, everyone who has signed up will be notified.

Meet at 10am half-way along the Beryl Burton Cycleway which borders Knaresborough Forest Park. (See map below. If you use What 3 Words, the meeting point is at ///smarting.crawling.ghost)!

The nearest parking is at Conyngham Hall, or get the bus to the Golf Club and walk along Bilton Hall Drive.

From Knaresborough, walk along the Ringway footpath from High Bridge, on the other side of the river from Conyngham Hall car park. Fork left up the hill and over two cattle grids, then keep going up the hill until you see us.

From Starbeck or Bilton, walk along Bilton Lane or Bilton Hall Drive to the junction of the two, then go down the Cycleway towards the river.

  • Bring your own protective gloves (we have some if you don't have your own) and appropriate footwear and clothing.

  • Tools will be provided but bring your own spade if you want to.

  • Bring your own drink and snacks.

NB There is no toilet on the Cycleway - you have the option of going back down to Conyngham Hall or across to the KFP farm buildings.

Before signing up, please fill in the Volunteer Registration Form here. (If you have trouble filling it in online, we will have paper copies on the day.)
