Enhancing the Ponds

Updated: Nov 28

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and KFP Volunteers Enhance Ponds with Native Shrub Planting

The KFP team had to obtain planning approval before developing the four newly installed newt ponds. As a condition of this approval they were required to achieve Biodiversity Net Gain to offset the habitat loss caused by the spread of spoil. This was done through the planting of 100 square meters of native shrubs, including Hawthorn, Hazel, and Dog Rose.

See below a current and artistic impression of what the pond may look like once soon established.

On Wednesday, 27th November, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Team joined our KFP Volunteers to brave the weather and plant the shrubs. After a productive morning's work, all the shrubs were settled into their new home, and the new pond habitat is beginning to take form. Signs of wildlife activity are already visible, with badger and fox tracks discovered in the mud surrounding the water.

A big thank you to the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and our band of volunteers for helping with the pond project.

Keep close to the land.
